New supernova spotted in M101, the Pinwheel Galaxy.


 On May 19th 2023, Japanese astronomer Koichi Itagaki spotted a new supernova in M101, the Pinwheel Galaxy about 21 million light years away. It is one of the nearest and brightest supernovae seen in the last few years and is easy to spot.

This photograph was taken in Reeth in the early minutes of Monday May 29th 2023.
