Partial eclipse of the sun Friday 20th March 2015

Initially the prospects of seeing the eclipse did not look very promising but, ever hopeful, we set up a couple of telescopes with the necessary Baader AstroSolar safety film filters and waited just in case.

There seemed to be some gaps in the cloud elsewhere but not in the direction of the sun. After what seemed like an age

a slightly brighter patch appeared and we began to hope. Then a faint crescent showed through the clouds and soon it was clear enough to get the telescopes into use.

On one telescope we swapped the eyepiece for a camera so we could record the view.
